Decided I would drive straight from Austin, TX to Dayton, OH. Crazy? Yes. But my best friend from high school was leaving to go back to college this morning and if I could make it back by early morning we could meet up, which we did. After a delicious three dollar Waffle House breakfast I then surprised the hell out of my parents by walking in the front door at 9 am.
Damn, its cold in Ohio! But i’m pleased to be back. And have ten days of a real summer.
Getting my favorite Dayton pizza, Marion’s, tomorrow. That is probably going to be the most exciting part of my day and i’m glad. Bout damn time I got to truly relax.
Life is good. Sorrysorrysorry i’ve been doing too many text posts lately but today deems worthy. Just saw Inglorious Basterds at a press screening, that shit was beautiful. I’m not one of those people that thinks everything Quentin Tarantino touches turns to gold, but he is definitely one person that I think needed to make a war movie. It was funny, bloody, intense, and absolutely classic Quentin. If anybody wants to go see it in Athens in a few weeks, I will definitely go again.
ALSO we got in the Sept/Oct issue of HM today, fresh off the presses…so weird to see my name typed across the Skillet cover story…my editor told me that Skillet’s record label ordered 1,500 copies of the story to send out to radio stations as a promotional tool…pretty damn cool.
Going to see Los Campesinos! tonight. Sweatily dancing like a tipsy fool to some indie pop with some people I barely know sounds delectable right now.
Heading to an Ice Cream Festival with Nolan tomorrow afternoon. Just what is needed in a city where it averages 100 degrees every day.
AND yes, Mad Men on Sunday! Totes pumped.
Okay, i’m done being a bragging asshole. I miss all of you and can’t wait to soon see everyone in the OH-I-O.
It’s about damn time, living out of a hotel by myself is enlightening but odd.
BUT, life in Texas still rules because:
1) I get to see Inglorious Basterds this Friday at a press screening, a full week before it comes out :)
2) I’ll be interviewing Relient K, The Almost, Advent (comprised of former members of Beloved, whom I adore) and Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying about his Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired side project all within the next week.
3) I’m seeing Los Campesinos! on Friday.
4) Etc….other Texas must-dos are also to come in the next few days.
All good stuff that will surely make the time fly by. Love it here, but big parts of me are ready to be back in the 937…swiftly followed by the 740.
