“IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN A FULL-TIME EDITORIAL POSITION: Send an email to ********@teamaol.com. Please include a resume, the site(s) you contribute to, a short summary of your contributions to AOL, and your areas of interest.”—
From the end of a mass e-mail AOL sent out to their freelancers today re: HuffPo merger & mass layoffs last week.
Now, why the flying fuck would you slaughter your editorial staff and then send out an e-mail to every person who has ever freelanced for you (ever), essentially saying, “We just laid off your editors, but no worries — just e-mail rando address so we can hire you full-time.”
Also, they used “impactful” in the e-mail. Not really an actual word.
Actually my understanding was that they were cutting the employees of AOL’s original origins as an Internet distributor…they are trying to grow the editorial/content areas of the company. Thus the deal with HuffPo, and the hiring of more writers. If only I could apply…
